Groundhog Day

Hi All,
Not much to report from sunny Oklahoma. No operations yesterday or today so V2 has yet to chase so far. There was a chance we could have rolled out yesterday (Saturday) but the ducks weren't in a line to go to Arkansas. The odds today were even less favorable and nobody was surprised when the word came down at the weather briefing that we were sticking tight. There seems to be some agreement that tomorrow might provide a better opportunity so stay tuned.

My impressions of Norman are not all that positive - I'm kind of ready to move on to somewhere different. It's an ok town I suppose...seems very strip-mall-ish. There are a few interesting places to note. Yesterday we had lunch at "Rudy's", a restaurant I can only describe as a meat shack. You had four menu choices of either beef, pork, poultry or sausage. If you were exotic you could ask for your selection in sandwich form. Based on the employee's t-shirts I can gather there were two official slogans of "Rudy's":
1) "I didn't climb my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables"
and
2) "It's called 'sause' cause taste is more important than spelling"

I suppose taste may be important to Rudy but perhaps he should take spelling more seriously. I'm reminded of the horrific incident where I ordered a pop and got something entirely different.

But I digress. Hotels so far have been above average but I'm steeling myself for what we may encounter later on. It's common water-cooler talk to hear participants from last year recount horror stories of some of the places they stayed.

All for now,
Casey

  2. Hopefully you dont get stuck at the First Inn located in Alliance, Nebraska. Also, we stayed in a hotel in Limon, Colorado called the Limon Inn and it was scary. Beware of the Ramada Inn in Hays Kansas.. There is a pool in the middle of the hotel with the rooms surrounding it. It got quite noisy there and I remember hearing some sort of fight overnight. A highlight was in Omaha Nebraska. I believe it was a Hilton in downtown. Absolutely gorgeous down there and it was a great hotel. Wingate Inn in Kearney, Nebraska was awesome too.
